As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will assume a pivotal role in providing legal expertise and strategic guidance to the organization’s leadership. Your responsibilities encompass offering legal counsel on intricate business decisions, risk management, and ensuring legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory:
- Provide comprehensive legal guidance and counsel to the company’s leadership and diverse departments.
- Ensure the organization’s activities adhere to relevant laws and regulations, spanning contract law, corporate law, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and employment law.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Evaluate legal risks associated with business decisions and proactively work to mitigate them.
- Assess potential litigation risks and develop strategies to prevent or minimize legal disputes.
- Litigation Oversight:
- Oversee litigation matters and collaborate with external law firms when necessary.
- Explore alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve legal conflicts.
- Monitoring and Compliance:
- Stay vigilant regarding legal and regulatory changes that could impact the company’s operations.
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance requirements and offer guidance on corporate structure and governance matters.
- Government Engagement:
- Engage with pertinent government authorities and agencies on regulatory and compliance issues that influence the organization.
Qualifications:
- Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and possess a valid license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Accumulate a minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role as a corporate attorney or in a similar in-house legal capacity.
- Mandatory experience in insurance companies, with knowledge in reinsurance considered an advantage.
- A preference for familiarity with the specific industry in which the company operates to understand industry-specific regulations and challenges.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills, crucial for conveying legal advice and effectively negotiating contracts.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex legal issues, assess risks, and provide practical solutions.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards as a guide to the company’s legal and ethical conduct.
- Possess the flexibility to adapt to evolving legal landscapes and shifting business environments.
